Sari Gelin Lyrics

By: Sami Yusuf

I fight for a love
Knowing it can’t be won
Sent from a light above
Child of our golden Sun
Sari Gelin

I reach for hands
Knowing they can’t be held
Cursed by words I can’t tell
Broken under your spell
Sari Gelin

And like a rose
Turning in to thorns
My love was taken
Back to the light above
What can I do, my love?
Child of our Golden Sun
Sari Gelin.

A beating drum
Searches on for your song
Echoes will carry on
Wondering where you’ve gone
Sari Gelin

Is that your voice
Caught in the mountain air?
Leading me to nowhere
Drifting in silent prayer
Sari Gelin

And like a rose
Turning in to thorns
My love was taken
Back to the light above
What can I do, my love?
Child of our Golden Sun
Sari Gelin

Saçın ucun hörməzlər Gülü sulu dərməzlər Sarı gəlin
Saçın ucun hörməzlər Gülü sulu dərməzlər Sarı gəlin

Bu sevda nə sevdadır Səni mənə verməzlər Neynim aman, aman Neynim aman, aman Sarı gəlin

Back to the light above
What can I do, my love?
Child of our Golden Sun
Sari Gelin

Sari Gelin:
Sari Gelin is a famous Azeri folk song hugely popular around the world, particularly in Turkey, Azerbaijain and the Persian speaking countries (Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan) as well as Uzbekistan, Greece, Bosnia and Serbia to name just a few. There are many traditional versions of this hauntingly emotional melody. This is our humble attempt at creating an English version of this beautiful love song based loosely on translations from the original variations.

  6. This is an old Armenian folk song and has various versions in other languages; such as Azeri, Kurdish, Persian, Turkish..

I am sick and tired of turks, cuz they steal everything!

    • Sorry, who said that? any evidence? I heard our prophet Muhammad (pbuh) told someone to sing in his daughter’s wedding.
Islam never said music is haram sweetheart!
Actually it could be a tool for many means. Why it shouldn’t be for Islam?

  10. I don’t understand why people fight for being the owner of the song “Sari Gelin” .The people who say ‘it’s your’s song” you must first demonstrate the reason. And truly I don’t think that people really care about the owner. The issue here it’s not to be the owner but taking a lesson by the song. It’s really a heart touching folk song. It’s about a love between a man who fall in love with a girl who has blond hair, but the girl’s father don’t want to give his girl to that man.The man who is deeply in love start to burble this song (“sari gelin”) After a while the lovers decide to leave but at the end unfortunately the man is killed after the order of the girl’s father. For the people who want to know the meaning of “sari gelin” word by word it’s means “yellow bride” The country which use the turkish language for saying “blond” use the color “yellow”.

    • Actually.. As Sami yusuf is a religious singer I dnt think that the story is about and a girl and how u mentioned it, it’s mostly about admiring god and say that we always look for him and that we’re in love with him, well… At least this was what i get from the song
Everyone can have a specific removal of the song,

  11. this melody is a folklore for all azeri and turk people… and also all people who lives in that area although in different countries. and you might know that folklore has nothing to do with politics or country borders or any belief, its just a good memory of our ancestors and old times… dont make it hard!!! Thank you SamiYOUSEF for this song… In Iran and in Tabriz we all fall in love again with it. A master piece.

beeing brought up in a by war destroyed country, it makes me so sad to see, how you all are fighting each other instead of celebrating peace music and the love of the One God, we all believe in.

  14. I love this song ❤ thank you for the lyrics :) I had one remark: The second line in the Azeri part should be “Gülü qonça dermezler” and not Gülü sulu dermezler ✌
